History of Shautany

The History of Shautany

The 'Shautany' name originated in 1991 from the two names Shaun and Tanya, (without the last letters) the children of founder member Mary-Anne Price. The chocolate business started up on Shautany farm, in Hazyview.

Mary-Anne was born in Antwerp, Belgium and followed her father when he was transferred to the then 'Belgium-Congo' after the second world war. When civil war broke out in the Congo, the family was forced to leave the country and they decided to settle in South Africa. Mary-Anne married a farmer in the Hazyview area and together they saw the potential to supply the lodges and hotels with fine Belgium chocolate. As quality chocolate was then unappreciated, the slow process of building the brand name began. Shautany strived to offer the best by using only the finest Belgian chocolate available in the world, together with the most natural, local ingredients.

In 2003, the first retail shop opened up in Casterbridge shopping centre, White River. The factory moved from the farm to the back of this shop but soon has to move again to the bigger premises where it operates from currently, corner of William Lynn and Kiaat in White River. The factory employs 12 ladies who work at creating each perfect truffle and the team is run by the most talented, Winnie Lubisi, who keeps producing faultless end products.

In 2008 the second shop opened up at the Riverside Mall in Nelspruit, and Dullstroom shop opened up in March of 2009.
